Owner gives update in chase for '£13m' striker linked with Bristol City, Derby County and Middlesbrough

Darragh MacAnthony says he is confident of keeping Ivan Toney at Peterborough United in January.

The 23-year-old has been in scintillating form at the League One club so far this season, netting 14 goals in 24 appearances whilst playing alongside former Bristol City striker Mo Eisa.

It has led to speculation over Toney's future, with the Robins one of a number of clubs to have been linked to the striker, along with Derby County, Middlesbrough and Premier League duo Bournemouth and Burnley.

Peterborough turned down a £4m bid for the striker in the summer and reports last month said Posh would be asking for £13m for him.

Yet, when asked on Twitter whether Peterborough would be able to keep Toney in January, Posh owner MacAnthony said he was confident.

"Sure," he replied. "Time will tell of course."

The London Road chief went on to add that Middlesbrough were huge fans of the player.

He said: "They love him, that's for sure.

"But sometimes what you love isn't what you can afford."
