PANCHKULA: Sector 11 resident Ajay Gautam has reported theft of electronic items from his house, about which his neighbour Santosh alerted him upon finding the lobby room lock broken. Gautam was out of town for some work. The case was registered under sections 380 (theft at house) and 457 (house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector-5 police station. Sub-inspector Suresh Pal, who is the investigation officer, said: “The investigation is under progress.”
Caller dupes Pkl woman
Panchkula: The caller from a fake courier company duped a woman of Rs 1.24 lakh by hacking into her bank account. A case of fraud was registered on the complaint of Shavili Devi, 30, of Pinjore. The caller told her that a package for her was stuck in the Baddi head office of the courier company and she’d have to make a small payment for its release. Since she was expecting an important package indeed, and so she she clicked on the link that was sent. Instantly, Rs 1.24 lakh was taken out of her account in eight transactions before the bank alerted her and she blocked the account. The case was registered under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Pinjore police station. Sub-Inspector Ramesh said the probe was on.
Capsules seized, two caught
Chandigarh: Police teams from Sector 39 and Industrial Area phase-1 arrested two men from sectors 29 and 41 in the past 24 hours and claimed to have seized banned capsules from them. Accused Kulwant Singh ‘Tinku’, 42 , is from Sector 39, while accused Munish Kumar ‘Anu’, 32, is from Badheri village. Kulwant was arrested near the MC’s water pumping station in Sector 29 with allegedly 190 banned capsules, while Munish was arrested on a Sector 41 turn with allegedly 160 capsules of Tramadol. Both had not permit and so were booked under the NDPS Act.
Mobile snatched, 2 held
Chandigarh: Two men were arrested on the charges of snatching a mobile phone at the Industrial Area Phase-2. Accused Prashant Kumar, 20, and Deepu, 21, are from Phase-1 of Ram Darbar. Complainant Amit Kumar of Panchkula was on his way home when two scooterists sneaked up on him from behind and snatched his mobile phone. Amit called 112 and cops from Sector 31 responded to the signal and laid a cordon that trapped the snatchers.The mobile phone was recovered.
UT cops’ yoga at stadium
Chandigarh: Police celebrated Yoga Day in collaboration with SPYM, Narcotics Control Bureau and the PGI at Cricket Stadium, Sector-16, on Tuesday with children from the under-privileged localities of Chandigarh. Director general of UT police Parveer Ranjan was chief guest. Gyaneshwar Singh IPS, deputy director general of the NCB, Chandigarh, along with zonal director Amanjit Singh, Dr Akshay Anand of the PGI’s yoga department, and his team led by Manish Kumar of the SPYM participated in the event.
MPhil, PhD scholars given extension
Chandigarh: There is some relief for the MPhil and PhD researchers of Panjab University, since a circular released on Monday gives them six months of extension for various projects. Due to the closure of the university because of the Covid-19 pandemic, they had been unable to use the library and laboratory facilities. The research work had stopped. Now they have an extension till December 30. The notice came after a review meeting was organized by the JAAC/Research Advisory Committee. The head of the departments considered each case separately.
