Owen Elsley, 26, originally of Adamstown, is hosting a concert on Saturday to raise funds for his move to Cambridge to join the Choir of King's College.

Mr Elsley, a former student of Merewether High School, has been accepted into the Masters of Music program at the University of Cambridge. He plays piano, trumpet, trombone, euphonium and french horn, and is also a talented tenor.

Upon acceptance to Cambridge, Mr Elsley auditioned for the university's Choir of King's College via Skype. The all-male ensemble, made up of university and school-age students, is one of the most famous church choirs in the world.

Mr Elsley and his family have organised a concert to raise funds for the "once in a lifetime" opportunity. The musician sets off for England in October.

The concert will see Mr Elsley perform everything from "Byrd to Broadway" with eight friends from various musical groups he has joined since moving to Sydney. The concert will take place today at 10.30am at Adamstown Uniting Church after a 10am morning tea.
