Owen Hargreaves selects the 'more special' player from Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has issued his verdict on two of the finest young players in the Premier League.

Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden have excelled for United and Manchester City respectively since the Premier League's restart and are expected to be key players for club and country over the course of the coming years.

However, while both players have huge heights that they can hit, Hargreaves believes that Foden is the 'more special' player out of the paid.

"I remember when I was doing some coaching with the U14s [at CIty] and Foden was half the size of everyone else,’ he told Premier League Productions.

"He had to be clever to stay one step ahead. He’s grown so much and he’s literally twice the size now. Once he stops growing and his co-ordination gets better he’s going to be unplayable. I think he’ll be one of England’s best players in a couple of year’s time.

"Greenwood is another good example. I think England know these guys are ready but I think they’re just trying to take their time. There’s a lot of players in there. You think of James Maddison, Jack Grealish and Mason Mount but Phil is more special.

"In between the lines I don’t think there’s anyone like him. You can’t coach what he has. All the boys are super talented but his numbers show that he is effecting games already, whatever his age is.

"The one thing that is really impressive about him is his instincts, his great finishing. Pep talks about it in training that he scores four or five goals; that’s why they try to get him up there."

Foden has made 32 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring seven goals and contributing nine assists - including four goals since the Premier League's resumption.

Meanwhile, Greenwood has made 42 appearances across all competitions and has scored 16 goals - four of which have come since the restart.
