Former Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes that Chelsea will miss out on their hunt for Premier League glory this season.
The Blues have started well and are currently third in the league table, having only tasted defeat once at the hands of defending champions Liverpool.
Despite Chelsea 's strong form, Hargreaves told Premier League Productions that he does not think Frank Lampard 's side will be lifting the trophy at the end of the season, instead backing the Reds and Manchester City to once again finish well clear of the chasing pack.
"I don't think so," Hargreaves said when quizzed on whether or not Chelsea have what it takes to scoop this year's domestic crown.
"I like Chelsea and I like what Frank Lampard is building, but I just think Liverpool and Manchester City are above them. I don’t think it will even be close. I think it will be those two first and second and a bunch of other teams after that.
"Frank has finally settled on this team but those teams [Liverpool and Man City] have been doing it for years and they both know their best teams.
"Chelsea are probably the third-best team in England but I don’t think they’re good enough or consistent enough to compete with the two teams who have been doing it for far longer and have better players."
Chelsea last claimed the Premier League title in 2017 under current Inter boss Antonio Conte.
The Blues host Leeds United on Saturday evening in search of a return to winning ways after a draw against league leaders Tottenham last time out in the Premier League.
Up to 2,000 supporters will be in attendance as Stamford Bridge prepares to welcome a crowd of spectators for the first time since March.
Ben Chilwell is expected to return to the matchday squad after he was rested against Sevilla in midweek following a nasty ankle roll during the draw with Spurs.
