Owen Hargreaves reveals what would be a success for Manchester United this season

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes winning the Europa League and achieving a top-four finish in the Premier League this season would be a success for Erik ten Hag.

Following a disastrous start to the campaign, featuring a 4-0 hammering away at Brentford in their second league game of the season, the Reds have made steady progress under Ten Hag in recent weeks, winning five of their last six league games. They got back to winning ways in the league on Sunday evening, beating Everton at Goodison Park, just seven days on from their 6-3 mauling at the hands of Manchester City.

United have also made progress in the Europa League, winning their last two outings, ahead of looking to make it a hat-trick of successive victories against Omonia Nicosia on Thursday evening. They are among the favourites to win the competition this season, along with Premier League counterparts Arsenal.

And for former midfielder Hargreaves, winning the Europa League is a realistic ambition for the club this season. It was the last trophy they won back in 2017.

Hargreaves, speaking on BT Sport ahead of kick-off against Omonia, said: "It's one of [the trophies they should try and win]. I think they're one of the favourites, for sure.

"There are other trophies. The Premier League is obviously unrealistic, we saw that against Manchester City. But I think if they can finish in the top four and win a trophy it would be a great debut season from Erik ten Hag."
