Owen Hargreaves names two transfers Manchester United should complete in summer

Owen Hargreaves has urged Manchester United to break the bank and sign both Declan Rice and Wesley Fofana.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to enter the transfer market this summer to further bolster his squad after a positive season so far, which sees United in second place in the league.

And former Old Trafford star Hargreaves has identified West Ham's Rice — who has been linked with United in the past — and Leicester defender Fofana as two potential targets.

Speaking to Premier League productions, Hargreaves said the potential of Rice makes him a must-buy.

He said: "I think Rice’s upside is off the charts. He has the potential to be anything and a lot better. I think he plays within himself at West Ham.

"People don’t realise how big he is. He’s 6’3, so he looks like a centre back but he’s actually really good technically.

"I’m not a big fan of players who just play in there and pass it around, you have to stop players too.

"Declan Rice doesn’t have to dictate the game for Manchester United, he can pass to the players who can make the difference and be good defensively."

Hargreaves also hailed Fofana's impact on Leicester since joining from Saint-Etienne last summer.

The 20-year-old has made an impressive start to life in the Premier League, despite joining the Foxes as a relative unknown last season following a promising debut senior season in Ligue 1.

Hargreaves believes the French youngster's performances this season mean United need to open their chequebook to sign him.

He said: "I’d love to see Manchester United get Fofana.

"He’s a Ferrari, honestly. I’d throw whatever they’ve got left in the bank to get him. He’s a fabulous player."
