Owen Hargreaves names Manchester United improvement despite West Brom draw

Although Manchester United will certainly be disappointed with their 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, Owen Hargreaves feels the Reds have made progress this season.

United conceded in the second minute when Mbaye Diagne outmuscled Victor Lindelof to head home Conor Gallagher's cross.

Bruno Fernandes produced a sumptuous volley to equalise just before half-time, and while United huffed and puffed after the break, they failed to find a second goal that would've secured all three points.

United lost ground to Manchester City in what is probably no longer a title race but Hargreaves said that sitting second is a major improvement for a team that has not consistently been in the top two for several years.

"Hugely disappointing [result] for United just because I think West Brom deserved at least a point from the game," Hargreaves told Premier League Productions. "You’d have thought United playing against a team in that position that they’d blow them away and they didn’t.

"Credit Sam Allardyce the way that he set them up they were a bit more positive. Diagne had a couple of chances in that second half where they probably could have even nicked the game - I think for Solskjaer he’ll be disappointed that they didn’t win the game

"But they’re still up into second place which is a big improvement from where they’ve been in the past few years.

"They [United] huffed and puffed, Mason Greenwood came on who I thought looked really good. United had chances but so did West Brom going the other way. I thought there were good chances in the game from both teams."
