Owen Hargreaves identifies tactical impact Axel Tuanzebe has on Manchester United

Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves both spoke about how impressed they've been with Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe prior to kick-off in Istanbul.

The 22-year-old caught the eye in United 's recent 2-1 win away to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, in what was his first appearance in 10 months after undergoing foot surgery earlier this year.

Hargreaves told BT Sport that Tuanzebe's pace allows United to play higher up the pitch.

“Fabulous player," he said. "He gives you so much - athleticism, his confidence, for a young guy, and with him, you can play higher up the pitch and put pressure on teams.

"We know they’re really good on the counter-attack, can they get up the pitch and dominate teams, stretch the pitch, make the pitch big? If they can do that - then they can really hurt teams.”

Fellow pundit Scholes added: "We saw how good he (Tuanzebe) was in Paris. He has no problem defending one-on-one."

Replying to the suggestion that if Tuanzebe can deal with Mbappe and Neymar, he can deal with anyone, Scholes said: "Well, exactly. You look at United down the years and they always had two centre-halves that could deal with centre-forwards. They didn't need protection (from midfielders). And that freed midfield players up to worry about the attacking side of the game."

Tuanzebe and the United defence had a first half to forget in Turkey as United conceded twice in the first half.
