Owen Hargreaves claims only one team can stop Man City winning Champions League

Owen Hargreaves believes this season is Manchester City's best ever chance of winning the Champions League.

But he has warned that Bayern Munich are the one team who could prevent them from doing so.

City easily saw off Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 on aggregate to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.

They have never made it past the last-eight under Pep Guardiola, and with the Premier League top spot all but sealed they will now no doubt look to prioritise winning the tournament.

Speaking to BT Sport following Tuesday's 2-0 second leg victory against Gladbach, Hargreaves admits he cannot see a weakness in this City side - but thinks last season's winners Bayern also still have a strong chance to retain their trophy.

"This is the City team that has best chance of winning Champions League,' Hargreaves said.

"The defence is sorted and I don't think this team has a weakness anymore. This is City's best chance, they have lost previous shootouts [Monaco, Liverpool, Spurs], now they are playing at their tempo, don't concede and score a tonne of goals.

"They have four No 10s on the pitch tonight. I don't see them going to shootouts anymore. I think you have to say it is [conceivable City can win the quadruple] just from the form they have.

"They don’t really concede. They have won 21 of the last 22. We all know the margins are so fine at that highest level and if you don’t get the details right, you can go out.

"I think Pep realises now that playing this way maybe he can control some of those little details.

"The only team I see that can stop them, is Bayern Munich. That’s probably the only one I see. But if they have a bad day then as we saw with United, they can be beaten."

Bayern will look to complete their last-16 assignment with minimal fuss when they host Serie A side on Lazio having won the first leg 4-1 in Italy.

And they and City will then turn their attentions towards Friday's quarter-final draw no doubt hoping to avoid each other when the names come out of the hat.
