Owen Farrell set for six-week ban for red card during Saracens defeat to Wasps

England captain Owen Farrell will appear before a disciplinary panel on Tuesday where he will learn the length of ban for his red card against Wasps on Saturday.

Farrell was sent off for Saracens for a high tackle on Charlie Atkinson. He immediately recognised his error and waited on the touchline to apologise to Atkinson by offering his hand.

Atkinson had only replaced Rob Miller eight minutes prior to the tackle.

He has been charged with breaking World Rugby Law 9.13 and will appear before an independent disciplinary panel, headed up by European Professional Club Rugby independent panel chairman Mike Hamlin, via video conferencing on Tuesday evening.

Farrell seems certain to miss the Champions Cup quarter-final against Leinster in 12 days. This was his first red card and he is set to receive a ban of around six weeks, which could be halved due to his good disciplinary record.

Saracens lost the home game 28-18.
