Owen Farrell pulls out of Saracens vs Glasgow Warriors to attend birth of child

England captain Owen Farrell has pulled out of Saracens' Champions Cup clash with Glasgow to after his wife went into labour.

Fly-half Farrell was named in the XV to face the Warriors at in their quarter-final on Saturday but withdrew himself from the side less than an hour before kick off.

Farrell is married to Georgie Lyon and the child will be their first together.

Farrell will be replaced at fly-half by former international ace Alex Goode - who was due to start at full-back - with David Strettle coming into the team.

Kick off for the clash was at 3:15pm UK time.

Saracens announced Farrell's exit in a tweet: "Owen Farrell is out due to his wife going into labour. Everyone at Saracens wishes them all the best!

"Alex Goode moves to fly-half, Liam Williams goes to full-back and David Strettle on to the wing. Max Malins comes on to the bench."

The game was due to be Farrell's first appearance since England's incredible draw with Scotland a fortnight ago.

Head coach Mark McCall told BT Sport: "Owen’s wife went into labour last night and we wish them all the best.

"Obviously it’s a huge day for them as a family and it looks like we’ll be without him for today. Family always comes first.

"Alex Goode’s been playing fly-half for us for the last five weeks and Liam Williams is a good replacement at 15."

Farrell and Lyon married in a lavish ceremony last summer having been in a long-term relationship for a number of years beforehand.

The pair share a house together in Hertfordshire, in which they are joined by their dog, Ron.

Farrell has recently come off the back of England's Six Nations campaign, where they finished second behind Grand Slam winners Wales.
