There was an interesting piece in the Independent yesterday and a lot of subsequent discussion on the radio and elsewhere. It seems Wal-Mart isn't the only organisation that wants not to have to employ fat people. I'm overweight myself and can see I'm lucky to be self-employed.
But before we get too high-horsey about the issue, let's not forget that an employer is legally responsible for someone in their employ and on their premises. So if I were to go and do a lifting job and have a coronary (man in his 40s, overweight, let's not kid ourselves it couldn't happen) then the employer might consider themselves responsible - or if they wouldn't, I'm damned sure I could find a claims company that would.
So I suppose, reluctantly, I can see the case for employing fitter people. Which puts me and a number of colleagues at a bit of a disadvantage.
Have a good weekend.
