Overwatch Season 4 introduces flexible battle passes for you to chase the skins you want

Overwatch revealed the battle pass revamp coming with Season 4: Heroes of Busan alongside the return of the previous battle pass later in the season.

The overhauled battle pass system, detailed on Aug. 10, releases on Aug. 11. With it, Overwatch lets you prioritize the rewards you want to earn in the order you want, rather than simply progressing through 80 linear tiers.

Prioritize the rewards you want

Season 4 battle pass has multiple tracks, each containing a Legendary or Epic skin. You can level them in any order, as long as you’ve completed a short introductory track. After completing all five main tracks, you gain access to additional tiers that offer Legendary loot boxes, Mythic Prisms, and Overwatch Coins, eventually unlocking seasonal titles.

the time commitment remains the same:

The developer highlighted that the number of tiers in a battle pass remains the same, and so does the time it takes to level them.

Premium battle pass owners also get a Tier Hack once per battle pass to swap an eligible Legendary reward for another cosmetic from the curated seasonal pool. The curated pool may include past shop and loot box skins across all three roles.

In Season 4, those cosmetics include Raijin Ashe, Mob Boss Junker Queen, Cardboard Reinhardt, Sakura Lifeweaver, and Crustacean Wrecking Ball.

Bringing back the old battle passes

That’s not all; as with Season 4 midcycle, Overwatch will bring back some of the old battle passes for you to pick up or finish leveling. Blizzard hasn’t revealed which battle passes are coming back, only that those are “select Battle Passes past.”

These battle passes, whether you bought them in Season 4 or owned them before, will remain permanently available for you to progress alongside the current content. The only exception is that unvaulted passes do not include the original premium currency, Mythic Prisms, Prestige titles, or Mythic hero and weapon skins.

More information about the returning battle passes will be revealed in the midcycle blog of Season 4: Heroes of Busan. In the meantime, prepare for the overhauled battle pass and new tank, D.Mon, in Season 4: Heroes of Busan.
