Blizzard Entertainment has officially introduced Shion, the newest damage hero coming to "Overwatch." The character will arrive when the next season launches on June 16.
After teasing the hero earlier in the week, Blizzard finally released a gameplay trailer. The video offered a closer look at Shion's abilities, combat style, and role in the game's expanding storyline.
As the third season following the Reign of Talon reboot, this update continues Blizzard's push to add fresh heroes and new story developments. Based on the first gameplay footage, Shion could quickly become one of the most popular additions to the roster.
Shion Combines Style and Aggressive Gameplay
Shion immediately stands out because of her appearance. She wears an all-white suit and features glowing red cybernetic eyes. Small crimson horns complete the look, giving her a striking presence on the battlefield.
Some fans have compared her design to Reaper. However, her gameplay feels much closer to Tracer.
Shion uses dual semi-automatic pistols that allow her to deal consistent damage while staying mobile. She also has access to a burst-fire attack that can quickly finish off weakened enemies.
The result is a hero built around speed, precision, and constant movement.
Motorcycle Ability Sets Shion Apart
Mobility appears to be the heart of Shion's kit.
The gameplay trailer showcased several movement abilities designed to help players dive into fights and escape danger. One of her core tools is a dash ability that lets her quickly reposition in combat.
The biggest surprise, however, is her motorcycle, according to Engadget.
Unlike any current "Overwatch" hero, Shion can ride a motorcycle directly into battle. The vehicle provides her with additional mobility and opens new ways to engage opponents.
The trailer also suggests players can launch themselves from the bike before sending it crashing into enemies. This creates an explosive attack that can disrupt enemy positions and potentially secure eliminations.
Shion's Ultimate Looks Built for Team Fights
Shion's ultimate ability could become a major threat in large engagements.
When activated, she transforms into a destructive vortex and charges through enemy teams. The ability appears capable of dealing heavy damage while creating chaos across the battlefield.
Combined with her speed and burst damage, the ultimate gives Shion another powerful tool for turning the tide of a match.
Players who enjoy aggressive flanking heroes may find her especially appealing.
Shion Could Play a Major Role in 'Overwatch' Lore
Shion is more than just a new hero. She also appears to be an important piece of "Overwatch's" ongoing story.
According to Blizzard, Shion has connections to the Hashimoto clan. Those ties could place her at the center of future narrative developments.
Her arrival may also expand storylines involving Kiriko and Mizuki. At the same time, it could reveal more about Vendetta, Talon's latest global threat.
We don't see a hero yet, throwing huge stuff at the opponents. That was before. Catching Sion's motorbike now is not on everyone's bingo card when facing her, but it will surely happen.
