Oct. 02--An overturned truck spilled hot asphalt on the 71 Freeway in Pomona on Friday morning, blocking all southbound lanes for hours.

Crews with the California Department of Transportation were working to scrape the asphalt off the road, an effort that could take several hours, Pomona police said. All lanes reopened at 11 a.m.

It is unclear how many tons of asphalt spilled during the 5 a.m. crash. Police said the semi-truck collided with a small vehicle just south of Mission Boulevard. The driver of the semi-truck likely lost control and overturned.

Commuters traveling on the freeways Friday morning saw additional delays in Diamond Bar.
