Overturned lorry chaos, luxury liner arrives, and Comic Con gets under way

Overturned scrap metal lorry sheds its load

A scrap metal lorry overturned and shed its load near the Rocket flyover early this morning (Saturday).

The driver escaped with cuts and bruises after the incident at around 5.20am today. The overturned vehicle left the roadway strewn with scrap metal and other waste and led to the M62 being closed in both directions between J4 (for The Rocket) and J5 (for Huyton).

Emergency services are in attendance at the scene and warned that recovering the vehicle and clearing up the mess was likely to be "a protracted operation."

Luxury cruise ship makes its first appearance in Liverpool

A luxury cruise ship is making its first visit to the Liverpool Pier Head terminal today (Saturday).

Silver Moon is operated by Silversea Cruises and will be stopping over in Liverpool as part of its Southampton – Reykjavik voyage. The operator boasts a "personalised service" and a crew-to-guest ratio of almost 1:1 on its cruises. This includes butler service in all suite categories, and Silversea's hallmark "small-ship intimacy." On board are eight restaurants.

The ship set sail from Southampton on the evening of Wednesday (May 18), and called at Falmouth and Fishguard before its arrival in Liverpool. It departs at 10pm tonight (Saturday) for Dublin (Dun Loaghaire), and will then proceed to Belfast, Oban, and Stornoway, before making its way to Iceland.

Liverpool Comic Con arrives in town

Liverpool Comic Con returns this year after a successful November 2021 event.

Sci-fi fans, comic book lovers and cosplay enthusiasts will be able to meet their favourite celebrities at the event which takes place at Exhibition Centre Liverpool today and tomorrow (May 21 and 22).

Among the celebrity guests appearing at the event are Robocop himself, Peter Weller, and Guardians of the Galaxy stars Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu. Vampire Diaries star Candice King and Glee stars Matthew Morrison and Heather Morris will also appear.
