Overturned lorry causes traffic chaos on Hamilton roads

Drivers should avoid the M74 near Hamilton due to traffic chaos caused by an overturned lorry.

The motorway heading south bound is closed from Hamilton onwards and drivers are advised to try to come off at the Raith Interchange if possible.

The incident occurred just after Junction 6 this morning, September 3.

Traffic has since flooded Hamilton with drivers taking this slip road coming off the M74 causing long delays.

Drivers should avoid the M74 south bound from Hamilton to Larkhall if at all possible. This is where the Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) overtunred earlier today.

It’s believed a tanker has spilled on the road causing this area to be closed, and subsequently traffic has been diverted through Hamilton and Motherwell.

South West Trunk Roads tweeted: “Our teams are attending to an overturned tanker on the M74 southbound after Jct6”.

Locals are asked to consider alternative routes to avoid further delays.
