Overtown shines on for Christmas after concerns that plugged could be pulled on decorations

Overtown residents had extra reason to celebrate the village’s Christmas lights switch-on as there had been some doubt that this year’s decorations would be in place.

But there were smiles all round as children and adults alike had a great time before the switch-on.

Nancy Kerr, chair of Overtown Brighter Village, said: “We’ve been doing this for 25 years now and the children always look forward to it. We had a whole host of things going on.

"There were more than 20 stalls and the school choir from Orchard Primary.

“Santa was there with selection boxes to the children and we even had snakes and reptiles.”

The organisers thanked the Coop, and the new owner of the Day-to Day shop in the village for their support.
