The trust that runs Ashton Sixth Form College is looking to expand the site with more than 200 new places for students.
Stamford Park Trust wants to increase the Tameside college's capacity from 2,376 students to 2,600 and expand the premises with new teaching space.
College trustees say they are currently working on preliminary designs and consultation for the expansion, while a funding bid has been made to the Department for Education and the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

Jonathan Reynolds, Labour MP for Hyde and Stalybridge, is a member of Stamford Park Trust.
In a post on his Facebook page, he explained that the college is currently oversubscribed - with demand for places this year even exceeding the college's new capacity should its expansion go ahead.
"I strongly support this move," said Mr Reynolds.
"I believe continuing to improve 11-18 education in the borough is essential, and Ashton Sixth Form College is rated outstanding and has been oversubscribed for each of the last three years.
"The proposal is to increase capacity from 2376 places to 2600. By way of a guide, there were 2733 applications for 1250 places in August of this year."
A public consultation on the expansion is now underway, with feedback set to be included in a business case for the college's expansion, which will be reviewed by the Regional Schools Commissioner and the ESFA.
In a letter about the consultation, Stamford Park trustees insist demand for places 'outstrips our current capacity' - with student numbers expected to keep rising.
It said: "The college has significantly increased its market share from schools both within Tameside and from surrounding local authorities in recent years - students and their parents want to attend the college.
"In addition, the number of students in school year groups continues to increase which will lead to greater pressure on post-16 places for the next decade.
"All school sixth forms in Tameside have closed in the last few years."
The Darnton Road college, which opened in 1980, became a 16-19 academy in February 2019.
It was rated as outstanding by Ofsted inspectors the following January, while it has been in the top 10% of A-level and BTEC providers in England and Wales for 'value added' in recent years, Stamford Park Trust says.
The consultation runs until 4pm on Friday, August 6.
