Overnight UK to Dublin coach service resumes following Covid restrictions

A popular coach service linking the UK to Dublin is set to resume for the first time since being halted amid the Covid pandemic. National Express is partnering with Irish coach operator Bus Éireann to reinstate the twice-weekly Birmingham - Dublin route.

Operating on the new Bus Éireann Expressway top-end coaches, customers can now make the overnight journey to the Emerald Isle in comfort from £69 one way, or £122 return. Tickets can be purchased from www.nationalexpress.com.

The service will operate on Fridays and Sundays, departing from Birmingham Coach Station Station at 9pm, and arriving in Dublin Busáras Bus Station the following day at 6:30am. The journey includes a ferry crossing at Holyhead.

Pre-pandemic, more than 15,000 passengers used the service between Britain and Ireland each year. Customers will be able to travel to the Irish capital easily and affordably by coach, with a generous baggage allowance including a free first suitcase up to 15kg, comfortable seating and onboard wifi.

With bus and ferry transportation emitting significantly less carbon dioxide per passenger kilometre than flying, the return of the Expressway Eurolines service means customers can make a sustainable travel choice and lower their carbon footprint.

John Boughton, commercial director at National Express, said: “We’re pleased to be partnering with Bus Éireann to relaunch the popular service connecting Birmingham with Dublin. As demand for affordable transport grows, coach travel is a great way to get to Dublin whether you’re visiting friends and family, going on holiday or getting to University. Journeys are comfortable and more reliable, plus it’s easy to travel without the hassle of getting to the airport or enduring long queues.”
