Overnight roadworks to take place on A8 at Baillieston

Drivers on the A8 in the Bargeddie area will face overnight diversions tomorrow as inspection work is carried out on high masts.

The westbound side of the trunk road will be closed from Bargeddie roundabout to Swinton, from 8pm on Thursday, August 6 until 6am the following morning.

Non-motorway traffic will be diverted via the A89 Coatbridge Road to the A752 Gartcosh Road/Cuilhill Road, and then along Lochend and Westerhouse Roads and finally onto the A8 Edinburgh Road.

Traffic using the motorway traffic will be diverted via the eastbound A8 to Eurocentral and will then join the westbound M8.

Workers from maintenance company Amey will carry out the inspections for the Scottish Road Partnership, on behalf of Transport Scotland.

A statement from Amey said: “This work requires a full closure of the westbound A8 at this location, with a signed diversion route in operation.

“We fully recognise the importance of a safe and reliable trunk road network, particularly during the Covid-19 outbreak, and it is vital that essential maintenance is carried out in order to maintain the integrity and safety of these routes.

“These works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland roads directorate, Traffic Scotland, emergency services, North Lanarkshire and Glasgow City councils.
