Overlooked Edinburgh dog has been waiting for forever home for 500 days

Edinburgh Dog and Cat home are appealing for someone to kindly give a two-year old dog a home, having been with them for a year and a half.

Romeo, a quiet male Staffie, has been with the Dog and Cat home for 530 days, a huge fraction of his life so far.

The home took to Facebook to appeal for an experienced owner to re-home Romeo, saying: "Romeo has been super patient waiting for his perfect match. He's been with us for 530 days. Life can be a little overwhelming at times for Romeo, so he would love someone to help him cope better."

On their website, they provided a little more information on Romeo and included important information about the sort of environment he would feel comfortable in, such as a quiet home, away from the city centre and an experienced owner.

They said: "Romeo is looking for an experienced owner who has had an anxious dog in the past and can commit to helping him reach his full potential. He would suit an adult only home where he will have company for most of the day.

"He would like to have his own private and secure garden, and needs a main door home so he doesn’t have to pass neighbours to get inside. He needs to be the only pet in his new home and needs to live away from the city or other busy area, where there are quiet areas he can go for exercise."

Romeo is easily spooked by large gatherings and noise, meaning he's had a particularly rough up-bringing. The home also describe him as nervous and can find life a bit overwhelming at times, like all of us.

They added: "He would love to find an understanding and patient owner who can help him manage his insecurities. He will need several visits to get to know his new owner, and is likely to take time to settle in and be comfortable in his new home."

Romeo is currently being fostered by his kennel mum to save him getting stressed out, but he is equally patient and travels well in a vehicle and is well behaved at home.

They concluded: "He is an energetic boy who loves running around and playing with his toys, and he enjoys going for quiet walks. Romeo would benefit from working with a behaviourist and needs an owner who is financially able to commit to this."

If you would like to register and interest and properly look after Romeo, you can fill out a 'Dog interest form' and for more information, you can visit the 'How to Rehome' page on the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home website.
