A number of Manchester United supporters have taken to social media to criticise midfielder Donny van de Beek after his misplaced pass allowed Young Boys to net an equaliser at Old Trafford this evening.
After taking the lead after just nine minutes through Mason Greenwood's stunning first UEFA Champions League goal in more than a year, United were pegged back just three minutes before half time through Fabian Rieder's fabulous effort from the edge of the box.
Van de Beek, who was one of 11 changes to the starting line-up that defeated Crystal Palace on Sunday, passed the ball into the feet of Rieder, allowing him the chance to shoot past Dean Henderson.
The Dutchman was trying to play the ball to Aaron Wan-Bissaka who was just a few yards ahead of him, but the right-back experienced a lapse in concentration, meaning each of them were to blame for the mistake.
Since joining United more than a year ago, the former Ajax man has struggled to nail down a spot in the starting line-up, frequently sparking outrage among a number of Reds supporters who have been desperate to see more of him.
However, one small mistake has changed the opinion of some supporters, whilst others have suggested that his error is the reason why he has struggled for opportunities to prove his worth.
Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what some United fans have had to say on social media.
As you can see from the messages displayed above, Van de Beek's error has not gone down well with the supporters, with them suggesting that it is now clear why he has not been playing as much as he would have liked.
Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's recent departure, the Dutchman has started just twice, with neither of those coming in the Premier League.
Since joining the club in September last year, Van de Beek has made 46 appearances for the Reds, scoring two goals.
