Overcast weekend ahead but milder temperatures won't last

Grey skies and occasional showers will cloud hopes of a Spring-like weekend but it will be slightly less-chilly with some warmth piling in from the continent.

It will be mainly overcast for many but feeling a little milder before temperatures fall again next week.

A spokesperson for The Weather Channel said low pressure would in charge for the weekend with cloudy days and outbreaks of rain.

Most places will see some dry and bright spells on Saturday with the south-easterly airflow pushing up temperatures.

The country will be split with best of the conditions in the west and grey skies and patchy rain in the east with a breeze bringing in a slight chill from the North Sea.

Things should start to get better for many on Sunday. It will be mostly cloudy but some brighter spells are possible.

It will be dry and breezy in the north with sunny spells and plenty of afternoon sunshine across Scotland.

Turning cloudier across Ireland as well as central and southern regions of the UK with some scattered showers.

Maximum temperatures ranging from 9 to 13C in the north and 11 to 15C in the south, although it could be slightly warmer in isolated spots in the south-east.

Another dry day is expected on Monday across the north with some sunny spells but it will be cloudier in the south with scattered showers - although there will be drier and brighter interludes at times.

Temperatures will trend lower again towards the middle of the week with cool air feeding in from Scandinavia.

However, some long-range forecasts suggest higher pressure taking over in time for the Easter break.
