'Over the moon' - New Preston North End boss Frankie McAvoy on being given permanent job

Frankie McAvoy says he is "over the moon" after being handed the Preston North End job on a full-time basis.

McAvoy, 53, took over from Alex Neil as interim head coach in March. The team's form in the Championship since then has picked up considerably, with North End winning five of his eight games, including the last four of the season.

Long-serving player Paul Gallagher has announced his retirement to join as a coach as part of McAvoy's staff.

Speaking after being announced as permanent boss, McAvoy said: "I'm massively proud. A fantastic day obviously for myself and my family, I'm absolutely over the moon to accept the job.

"I've had a great introduction.

"I had eight games and then they said they would decide after the eight games so I'm absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity and the chance to take Preston forward."

Preston finished 13th in the Championship this term - a disappointing 16 points shy of the play-offs.
