More than one million people tuned in to watch The Late Late Show’s season opener over the weekend.
The popular chat show returned for its 57th season on Friday night and RTE chiefs revealed impressive viewing figures.
An average of 545,000 people watched the entirety, representing a 49.1% share – the highest season opener since 2016.
A further 66,224 tuned in online over the weekend as Sinead O’Connor made an epic return to the stage after a five-year hiatus, performing hit Nothing Compares 2 U.
Greg O’Shea, Maura Higgins, Aisling Bea and Keith Barry also entertained viewers. Overall, 1,004,400 people tuned in over the course of the show.
Host Ryan Tubridy said: “Last Friday was a special moment for us all on The Late Late Show to open with a great sense of pride and gratitude especially for our friends from the national services.
“The splash of colour from Maura and Greg was gorgeous and fun, Aisling Bea was a revelation for a lot of people, a great comic talent, and Sinead O’Connor turned a page for many people.
“Her performance was golden, her interview thoughtful and warm and I think Irish people took her to their hearts again.”
