Over half of Mirror readers think Meghan and Harry should not have done Oprah interview

Many Mirror readers were left feeling more negatively toward Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after the couple's bombshell interview.

Their tell-all with Oprah did not play well with nearly half of readers who participated in our survey.

Nearly half felt more negatively towards the Sussexes after they watched the interview - and nearly three-quarters said the couple should not have done it at all.

The couple's interview with the chat-show queen aired stunning claims that have rocked Buckingham Palace.

But Mirror readers were divided over Meghan's claims, with more than half saying the interview left their views toward the Royal Family unchanged.

Nearly half didn't agree with what she said - with the rest left either 'shocked' or unsurprised at her allegations.

Meghan told the world for the first time she felt suicidal during her pregnancy.

And she and Harry claimed a member of the Royal Family asked how dark Archie's skin colour would be when he was born.

That prompted the Palace to respond saying it was taking claims of racism seriously - though it would handle the matter 'privately' and suggested 'recollections may vary.'

The interview that first aired on CBS was broadcast in Britain on ITV on Monday night, and has sent shockwaves around the world.

But we were interested in hearing what Mirror readers thought and can now share the results of our survey - filled out more than 95,000 times.

Some key results showed readers still supported the royals, and felt Meghan and Harry were wrong to do the interview in the first place.

More than half of those who participated felt the royals had done their best and the Sussexes had no interest in making the relationship work.

But by contrast, 19% felt the couple had been driven out by 'The Firm' - to borrow the nickname Meghan notably used during the interview.

Harry told Oprah he felt the experience of his mother, the late Princess Diana, had left him prepared to seek change.

He described his father and brother as 'trapped' but said there was a desire to heal the fractured relationships.

Harry also claims the royals had cut him off financially following Megxit.

Meghan and Harry each said they were saved by the other, as the prince told Oprah watching his wife suffer had sent him to a 'dark' place.

In happier news, they revealed for the first time they were having a baby girl during the sit-down with Oprah.

They also shared a rare video of baby Archie.

It came after they suffered miscarriage heartbreak last year.

A total 24% of Mirror readers said it was sad to see the way the royal family had broken apart.

But 69% said the couple were still not right to do the interview in the first place.

The Sussexes had faced criticism over the timing of the chat.

Teasers emerged while the Queen was dealing with Prince Philip getting heart surgery.

Some critics also questioned the couple's appeal for public sympathy over their quest for a new life and complaints about their finances as the world remains in the throes of the coronavirus pandemic.

But 24% of Mirror readers felt that they were still right to go ahead with the interview.

Nearly half of all readers surveyed said they were either unsurprised or shocked by the allegations Meghan laid bare about royal life.
