Over a dozen arrests after assaults and damage during Spennymoor Town and Darlington match

A police investigation has been launched after violent scenes erupted at a North East football clash.

Durham Constabulary officers are now appealing for information following a disturbance at the match between Spennymoor Town Football Club and Darlington Football Club on Boxing Day.

Several people, including four police officers, were assaulted and damage was caused to property within the grounds of Spennymoor Town Football Club.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that more than a dozen suspects have been identified and enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force asked for anybody with any further information to come forward to assist with their ongoing enquiries into the incidents.

They stated: "Officers want to hear from anyone who has any information following the Boxing Day incident, especially any mobile phone footage.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Paula Ruck at Paula.Ruck@durham.police.uk or calling 101 with extension 202449."
