Over 90% of Irish Mirror readers believe Katie Taylor is a better sportsperson that Conor McGregor

An Irish Mirror poll has found that 92% of our readers think Katie Taylor is a better sportsperson than Conor McGregor.

Both fighters have achieved incredible things in their respective sports in recent years and aren't used to losing, but there is only one winner here.

Over 22,000 people voted in our Facebook poll, with more than 20,000 of those opting for the Bray boxer.

Earlier this month, she made history by becoming the undisputed world lightweight champion. It's the latest on a long list of achievements for Taylor, 32.

As an amateur she won five world Championships, six European Championships, five EU Championships and a European Games on top of an Olympic gold medal.

In comparison, McGregor became the first ever fighter to hold two UFC belts at the same time when he defeated Eddie Alvarez in November, 2016.

He also received around $100million (€88million) when he switched to boxing to fight Floyd Mayweather in August, 2017.

Both Taylor and McGregor have spoken highly about each other in the past, with the MMA star visiting the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in her dressing room after she defeated Cindy Serrano last December.

Speaking to her then, he said: "You're a special, special talent. Filled with hard work - you can see it and big respect to you.

"You know my number Katie. Let me look after you! Come here, give me another hug.

"I'll hit you up and I'll see you soon... I'm delighted to come here and see you live. You're unbelievable Katie.

"You deserve way more respect. Take your respect; demand it."

He added: "It is an honour for me to come and see you. You're an Irish hero, and I mean that."

And just last week, Taylor claimed McGregor was "one of the greatest athletes in the world".

She said: "To get his support was absolutely amazing.

"He's one of the greatest athletes in the world right now, one of the most recognisable athletes and he doesn't have to support me the way he does.

"His support means the world to me, he really went out of his way to come to my fight in Boston a couple of months ago to show his support and that means everything to me."
