Over 90% of Chinese Students Aged 12 to 17 Fully Vaccinated Against Covid

What’s new: More than 90% of Chinese students aged 12 to 17 have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, state media reported Wednesday, citing the Ministry of Education.

Additionally, over 95% of students, teachers and school staff over 18 have received two doses of a Covid vaccine, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency report.

In an interview with Xinhua, Wang Dengfeng, an education ministry official, revealed the high inoculation uptakes and encouraged people who live in the border areas or come from outside China to take nucleic acid tests more frequently.

The education ministry suggested people stay local (link in Chinese) during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and weeklong National Day holiday due to the latest Covid-19 outbreak, Wang said.

The background: The eastern province of Fujian is battling a flare-up that has grown to include 200 people (link in Chinese) in six days, with a cluster of infections at an elementary school linked to a returnee from Singapore.

In August, several Chinese regions began vaccinating minors aged 12 to 17.
