Over 800 assaults on Glasgow emergency workers during lockdown

Emergency workers in Glasgow were assaulted over 800 times in the coronavirus lockdown.

The shocking statistic has been revealed by Police Scotland's response to a Freedom of Information request submitted by Glasgow Live.

It shows a total of 806 common assaults of an emergency worker were recorded between March 20th and August 27th this year.

A comparison between April 2019 and April 2020 also shows an increase in assaults on emergency workers year-on-year. 147 were recorded this year, with 136 recorded 12 months earlier.

As reported earlier today, the police figures show an overall fall in crime across Glasgow during the coronavirus lockdown.

In April 2020, a total of 5,962 crimes were recorded by Police Scotland in the Glasgow city area, in comparison to 7,001 in April 2019, a fall of almost 15%.
