Over 700 parking fines handed out on one Dublin street in 2021 as three City streets top for clamping

One street in South Dublin saw 746 fines handed out for parking errors in 2021.

Main Street in Blackrock was the most fined route in the Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council area, figures obtained by the Irish Mirror via a Freedom of Information request show.

A total of 29,378 fines were issued in towns across Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown last year.

The highest number of fines on one street was 746, while the least was just one.

Sydenham Road in Dundrum, Brennanstown Road in Cabinteely, Monkstown Avenue in Monkstown and Oakdown Road in Churchtown were among those to see just one parking fine issued.

Among the highest was the Old Bray Road in Cabinteely, which accumulated 576 fines.

Above that was Sandyford Road Car Park in Dundrum, which had 660.

Next were two entries from Dún Laoghaire with Marine Road at 664 and Convent Lane at 682.

Aside from these two spots on the top five list, Dún Laoghaire was featured 112 times out of over 440, more than any other area.

This data comes as Dublin City Council revealed their list of the top spots to get clamped in the city centre.

Between January and December 2021, there were 39,917 instances of clamping, with 2,868 appeals. Only 475 of these appeals were upheld.

The top offences included not paying for a parking bay, parking on a clearway, having an expired or not valid parking ticket and parking on a footpath.

Gardiner St Lower, Mespil Road, Merrion Square West and North Great George's Street were featured at the lower end of the top ten list.

They were followed by Ranelagh, Waterloo Road and Merrion Square South.

The top three places to get clamped in Dublin City last year were Chelmsford Road, South Circular Road and Clarendon Street.

These streets held the top spot in 2020 as well, which saw 35,593 clamps, 6,295 relocations, 494 removals, 2,450 appeals and 444 upheld appeals.
