Over €700,000 worth of drugs seized in west Dublin area following interception of vehicles

Cocaine and Cannabis herb with a total street value of €715,000 was seized in two Dublin areas on 23 April.

The seizure, which took place at 6:30pm, was part of an intelligence led operation targeting organised crime in the Dublin West region.

Officers from the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau intercepted two vehicles in the Ballyfermot area.

Following this interception, a number of follow up searches were carried out in the Ballyfermot and Lucan areas.

Two males, aged 33-years-old and 20-years-old, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.

They are currently being detained at Ballyfermot Garda Station.

This comes after Revenue seized 500 litres of wine and six litres of spirits with a retail value of €7,260 in Dublin Port.

The seizure, which took place on Thursday 18 April, was part of routine operations at the port and represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €3,600.

The goods were discovered when officers conducted examinations of two vehicles which had arrived from France.

Investigations are ongoing.

As well as this, during an intelligence led operation on the same day in Portlaoise, Revenue officers seized a package containing 1 kilo of herbal cannabis.

The drugs have an estimated street value of €20,000 and were found during searches of two properties in the area.

Gardaí arrested a 23-year-old Irish man, a 22-year-old Lithuanian man and a 20-year-old Polish man.

The three men were detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act 1996 and brought to Portlaoise Garda Station for questioning.

The seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting drug importations and the supply and sale of illicit alcohol products in the shadow economy.
