With just three days left until Election Day, more than 70 million ballots have already been cast in the United States. According to data from 47 states and the District of Columbia, approximately 71.5 million Americans have already voted. This information was gathered by Edison Research and Catalist, a company that provides data and analytics services to Democrats, academics, and nonprofit advocacy groups.
The current number of early votes represents about 45% of the total votes cast for president in 2020, which was approximately 158 million. In the previous election year, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, around 70% of votes were cast before Election Day. However, in 2022, voters are evenly split between voting early and on Election Day.

Fourteen states have now surpassed 50% of the total votes cast in 2020. Georgia leads the way with pre-election voting accounting for 80% of the votes cast in the previous presidential election.
