LUCKNOW: Reaching a new milepost, Uttar Pradesh completed over 7 crore vaccine doses on Sunday — the highest in the country.
In another glad tidings, 21 districts in the state have zero active Covid cases and 63 districts reported no fresh case.
As of Sunday, Aligarh, Baghpat, Balrampur, Banda, Bijnor, Chitrakoot, Etah, Farrukhabad, Fatehpur, Gonda, Hamirpur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Mahoba, Mau, Muzaffarnagar, Pilibhit, Rampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Unnao and Kanpur Nagar became Covidfree.
As the number of cases continues to drop in the state amid the high rate of sample testing, active cases went down to 265 — a 99% decline from the peak period capped at 3,10,783 cases on April 30.
However, two Covid patients, one each in Mathura and Prayagraj, succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the state death toll to 22,818.
On Sunday, only 14 fresh cases were reported and 37 patients recovered from the infection.
The maximum number of cases — two each — were reported from Lucknow and Varanasi.
The Uttar Pradesh government said that “it was because of its proactive measures such as aggressive ‘Trace, Test and Treat’ plan, vaccination drive and partial corona curfew that the devastating impact of the pandemic has been minimised.”
More than 7 crore samples have been tested for Covid in the state since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
The positivity rate in Uttar Pradesh has dropped to lower than 0.01% and stands at 0.006%, in contrast to states like Kerala, which has a positivity rate of 18.67%.
