Over 65,000 federal workers have chosen to participate in the deferred resignation program, according to a White House official. This decision comes as a federal judge has put a halt on President Donald Trump's midnight deadline, extending the acceptance period until at least Monday.

Earlier reports indicated that around 50,000 employees had already agreed to the package offered under the deferred resignation program. This program typically allows workers to exit their positions while still receiving pay through the end of September.
