Over 50 more confirmed coronavirus cases in Lanarkshire since yesterday

The Scottish Government today said that 478 people have now tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire.

That is an increase of 51 new cases, up from 427 yesterday.

It comes as 220 patients across Scotland who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

The test numbers for April 5 show:

A total of 23,143 people in Scotland have been tested. Of these:

■  19,437 tests were confirmed negative

■  3706 tests were positive

■  220 patients who tested positive have died

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “Coronavirus is the biggest challenge of our lifetime and  measures we take to tackle it must reflect the magnitude of that.

“These measures are essential to slow down the spread of this virus. They are essential to reduce the peak impact of it.”
