A GoFundMe page has garnered over €48,000 from members of the public as the family of a woman who was allegedly murdered in Cork look to bring her body back to Brazil.
Ms. Fonseca was a native of Formiga in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and was a qualified librarian having graduated from the Centro Universitario de Formiga in 2018.
She moved to Cork in September of last year and worked as a contract cleaner at the Mercy University Hospital.

On New Year’s Day, her body was found at a Flat on Liberty Street in Cork at around lunchtime. The scene was sealed off and a full forensic examination was carried out.
A postmortem was carried out by Assistant State Pathologist, Dr. Margaret Bolster at Cork University Hospital, however, the results of the post-mortem were not released.
People have been flooding the GoFundMe page with condolences for the family, and one person wrote: “I am very sorry to hear about this terrible tragedy. May God bless Bruna and provide support and strength to her family and friends.”
Another said: “I am so very sorry, i didn't know Bruna but I am so deeply touched what happened to her and she is in my thoughts all the time these days. Sending all the love to Bruna's family and friends. Rip beautiful soul”.
A third wrote: “Deepest condolences to her family friends & community on their heartbreaking loss and on the violent death of Bruna Fonseca. They are in our thoughts and prayers. May she rest in eternal peace”.
Meanwhile, a man - her former partner - has since been charged with the murder of the 28-year-old.
Miller Pacheco, 29, originally from Formiga in Brazil, was living at Room 3, 5 Liberty Street, and appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court.
He was charged in connection with the death of Ms. Fonseca. The court heard that Mr. Pacheco made no reply when the charge was put to him under caution at 3.57 pm on Monday. The charge was translated for him by an interpreter.
Mr. Pacheco was remanded in custody to appear before Cork District Court again on January 9. He will appear by video link. Sgt Pat Lyons said that a translator would be required for the brief hearing.
