Over 200 motorists fined by Dublin City Council for parking in disabled spaces in Dublin so far this year

Over 200 motorists have been fined for illegally parking in spaces assigned as disabled spots so far this year, Dublin Live has learned.

Between 1 January and 31 June of this year, 213 motorists have been issued the fixed fine of €150 for parking in these spaces.

The number is on course to eclipse last year's total, as there were 335 fines issued between 1 January and 31 December 2018.

Between 1 July 2017 and the 1 July 2019, there have been a total of 755 fines, meaning that motorists have been charged a total of €113,250 for misuse of disabled spaces.

Motorists may also be clamped for parking in disabled spaces, where clamping is enforced. This is usually met with an €80 charge for removing the clamp.

In the year 2017, 55,977 vehicles were clamped in the city council area by Tazbell Services Group DAC which owns Dublin Street Parking Services (DSPS) Unlimited and operates the clamping contract for Dublin City Council.

This works out at just over 150 vehicles clamped every day.
