More than 200,000 people as of Sunday have visited two Japanese art exhibitions at the Tokyo National Museum that are part of the Tsumugu Project: Promoting, Restoring and Preserving the Beauty of Japan's Art, organized by the Cultural Affairs Agency, the Imperial Household Agency and The Yomiuri Shimbun.
The exhibitions are "Cultural Exchanges of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress: Sharing the Beauty of Japan," which ended April 29, and "Masterpieces of Japanese Art: From Sesshu and Eitoku to Korin and Hokusai," which opened May 3 and will continue through June 2.
"I appreciate [the exhibitions] as they offer great opportunities to feel the beauty of Japanese culture," said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga at a press conference on Monday.
Regarding the Nihonhaku (the Japan Cultural Expo), which the government will hold across the nation alongside the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, he said, "I'd like to make it rich in content so that many people will be able to appreciate masterpieces of Japanese fine art."
