Traffic light travel system: 20 countries set for green light in June 24 UK Government review

On June 24, the UK Government is set to review the green list of countries holidaymakers will be able to travel to this summer.

This will see an update to the list and early reports suggest as many as 10 nations will be given the green light, allowing holidaymakers to book trips abroad and soak up some much needed sun.

According to reports, Malta is likely to be added to the green list with a case rate of just 7 per 100,000 people. This figure is lower than the vast majority of Scottish local authority areas with Glasgow City's case rate standing at 157.5 per 100,000.

The US may also be added as they currently have a rate of 31 per 100,000 people.

The Canary Islands was not added to the green list when the last review took place on June 8 however there's reportedly widespread chat that holiday islands could be separated from mainland territories.

And if this is the case, the Canary Islands are likely to be a new entry on the green list followed by Lanzarote, Tenerife and co, the Balearic islands, Majorca and Ibiza.

Poland and Mexico, with case rates of eight and 16 per 100,000 respectively, are also candidates to be given the go-ahead.

Italy (27 cases per 100,000), Germany (24 per 100,000) and Jamaica (14 cases per 100,000) are also in the running.

Finland (a case rate of 14 per 100k) could also be added.

The next government review takes place on June 24.

This is the latest green list:

  • Israel
  • Gibraltar
  • Iceland
  • Faroe Islands
  • Brunei
  • Falkland Islands
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha
  • South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
