PATNA: Over two lakh Covid-19 vaccines were administered to eligible beneficiaries across the state on Wednesday, as part of the second ‘Maha Tika Abhiyan’ started this month. This included, first, second as well as precautionary doses, touching the total vaccination figure of 13 crore mark in the state.
The health department have planned three such mega vaccination drive in this month and the third one is scheduled for May 14. An official said the motive behind holding such a mega drive is to maintain the pace and vaccinate maximum number of beneficiaries, before rolling out a new phase of vaccination for children above 5 years. He said the stress is also being given on door-to-door vaccination as well as through mobile vaccination van.
State health department executive director, Sanjay Kumar Singh, appreciated the response they received in the mega drive on Wednesday. “Till 8.10pm, the maximum number of vaccine doses was administered in Siwan where 21,715 shots were given, followed by East Champaran (14768), Araira (12595), Kishanganj (10024) and Darbhanga (9120),” Singh said while sharing the vaccination data.
Another official said they are now focusing on administering precautionary doses and as well as inoculating the age group of 12-17 years. He said, “Once the Centre gives go ahead for vaccinating children, we will provide the facility at all schools.”
As per the data available on Cowin portal, over 12.99 crore doses have been administered till late evening and this include 7.01 crore first doses, 5.84 crore second doses and 13.09 lakh precautionary doses.
