Over 120 jobs on offer at Merseyside food business

A Merseyside factory has launched a major recruitment drive, with over 120 jobs up for grabs.

The meat firm Tulip will reopen its Bromborough site this month, with the promise of new jobs across the company’s operation, as well as engineering and technical apprenticeships.

The factory’s return to operation is supported by a £15m investment, which will see state-of-the-art food manufacturing technology and equipment brought to the Bromborough site, as it looks to become a centre of excellence for the UK’s fresh pork manufacturing.

The announcement comes at a time when jobs are badly needed in Merseyside.

In March, unemployment in Merseyside stood at 4.3%, as measured by the claimant count.

But by May this had risen sharply to 8% and the figures for June, the most recent available, said 7.8% of Merseyside’s working age population were unemployed.

Jobless numbers have not been this high in Merseyside for decades, despite the government's furlough scheme which is set to end in October.

Andrew Cracknell, Chief Executive of Tulip, said: “The re-opening of our site in Bromborough, which comes with significant capital investment and job creation, is great news for our business, the local community and our customers.”

The firm said operations will initially focus on the production of higher welfare, Red Tractor and EU fresh pork for retail customers, with scope for further growth and expansion in the future.

Julian Weeks, the newly appointed site director at Tulip’s Bromborough base, said: “We are looking for smart, hard-working and enthusiastic individuals to join our team, in order to support initial production volumes with operations commencing in August.”
