Slain Glasgow gangster Omar Sadiq's loved ones raise £12,800 to build mosque in his memory

Over £12,800 has been raised to build a mosque in Pakistan in memory of murdered Scots gangster Omar Sadiq.

The dad-of-three was stabbed in his own car on Boydstone Road near Silverburn shopping centre in Pollok, Glasgow, on September 15.

Sadiq, aged 32, died a short time later in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, sparking a murder investigation.

The online fundraiser was set up the day Sadiq died in order to build a mosque and a water pump in his name.

A loved one, who launched the GoFundMe page, posted a statement online.

It read: "I'm starting this page to raise funds to build a masjid and water pump in the name of Omer Sadiq.

"Omer Sadiq brother of Kashif, Amar and Alim Sadiq, husband and father-of-three has returned to the mercy of Allah.

"Please, if you would like to be a part of this wonderful deed, please donate anything.

"The masjid and water pump will take approximately five months to build.

"This is the least we can do for our brother.

"If we don't reach the target I will donate the money to build water pumps or donate money to orphanage in the name of Omar to charity."

One generous donor chipped in £8,200 to help the fund quickly smash through the £10,000 target.

We previously told how a makeshift shrine in the street where Sadiq was stabbed was set on fire hours before he was laid to rest.

The dad was linked to race-hate killers Imran “Baldy” Shahid, his brother Zeeshan Shahid and Faisal Mushtaq, who were all sentenced to life in 2006 after being found guilty of killing Glasgow schoolboy Kriss Donald, 15.

Sadiq was linked to a knife attack on a witness involved in the case in 2008.

He was jailed for five years in 2009 for trying to ram a rival off the road while pointing a firearm at the car.

Police probing Omar's death say they are following a positive line of enquiry.

Plain clothes police officers continue to investigate in the south side of the city.

On Sunday, Police Scotland Chief Inspector Shaheen Baber told our sister title, the Sunday Mail: “We are following a positive line of inquiry into the murder of Omer Sadiq.

“Additional uniformed patrols are ongoing in relevant local areas of the south side of the city, with officers continuing to engage with communities.”
