More than 10 million people, or approximately 30% of the population, in Saudi Arabia have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 58 percent received one dose.
This comes as the Kingdom put into effect a decision that requires Saudis to be fully vaccinated to be able to travel abroad.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Interior said that only citizens, who received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, were allowed to travel outside the Kingdom, with the exception of those under 12 years of age, who are required to present before travel an insurance document approved by the Saudi Central Bank that covers the risks of the virus outside the Kingdom.
The decision also exempts people who have recovered from the virus less than six months before their travel, and those who contracted the virus and received one vaccine dose.
Saudi Arabia continues to implement the decision to prohibit the travel to 17 destinations, including the UAE, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, Turkey, Armenia, Ethiopia, Somalia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Belarus, India, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health launched on Sunday an awareness campaign to warn against rumors about the Covid-19 vaccines. In parallel, the security authorities announced fines ranging between SAR 100,000 (USD 28,000) and SAR one million (USD 265,000), or imprisonment between one and five years, or both, on anyone who spreads rumors about the coronavirus.
The Ministry of Health announced that 796 new infections were recorded on Monday, in addition to 557 recoveries and 11 deaths.
