LUCKNOW: At least 10,923 loudspeakers were removed from the religious sites of various communities across the state in the last 72 hours as part of the campaign to ensure compliance with the government directives on the use of loudspeakers.
Besides, the volume of 35,221 loudspeakers was lowered in accordance with the prescribed decibel levels.
Recently, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the officials to ensure that loudspeakers are not installed at religious sites without prior permission. In places where the use of loudspeakers is permitted, it should be ensured that the sound does not go beyond the premises where it is installed, the order added.
As per the police dossier, the maximum number of loudspeakers (2,395) were removed in Lucknow police zone while the volume of 7,397 others was lowered which is also the highest.
Additional director general of police, law and order, Prashant Kumar said all the district police chiefs and police commissioners were sending daily compliance reports to the DGP headquarters.
"A notice is issued to the religious places informing about the decibel limits of loudspeaker depending upon its place and time," said Kumar, adding that the directives were based on the Supreme Court order on noise pollution.
In police commissionerates too, joint commissioners and additional commissioners are enforcing the directives. Joint commissioner of police, law and order (Lucknow), Piyush Mordia said at least 512 loudspeakers were removed from temples, mosques and gurdwaras while the volume of 1,908 loudspeakers was lowered in the city.
