Over £1.5K raised for families affected by Motherwell Bonfire Night blaze

A fundraiser set up to support the two families affected by a Motherwell Bonfire Night blaze has made over £1500 in a matter of hours.

The community quickly rallied when they heard of the substantial damage caused to the two homes on Corrie Drive in the north side of the town.

Residents watched as the fire ripped through the two properties at around 8pm last night (November 5), meanwhile emergency services, including police, fire and ambulance, rushed to the scene.

As residents begin to deal with the tragedy, one local who lives nearby, Scott Symington, has set up a fundraising page to try and provide vital support to the families affected.

The gofundme page was only made a couple of hours after the incident but has already raised an incredible £1530.

Scott is delighted at how quickly his community has rallied. He told the Advertiser: “I’d like to say that my community once again stepped up in time of need and by the looks of the fund at the moment they certainly have done that and more.

“I set it because I felt once again like Abbie’s death down here last year people would be willing to help out and more. Really the thing I want to say is that North Motherwell residents or the biggest majority of us care about others in time of need.”

Scott posted on his community Facebook page earlier today thanking those who have stepped in to help. He said: “Thank you all so very much for the very very fast response of all those willing to help both families I’m sure they will all be flabbergasted at it!

“At present as you’ll see there is a gofundme page set up and running. Others are saying about donations of food, clothes etc which is amazing too!! Please contact anyone you know who might well know the members of both families to find out what they may need.”
