Over €1.4m worth of alcohol seized at Dublin Port last month

Revenue seized alcohol worth over €1.4 million in Dublin Port last month.

Over 265,000 litres of alcohol including 36,720 litres wine and 229,449 litres of beer was found by officers throughout the month of October.

The discovery was made during the examination of 11 unaccompanied trailers arriving separately into Dublin Port from the UK and Belgium.

This represented a potential loss of over €735,000 to the Exchequer.

A spokeswoman for Revenue said: “The alcohol was discovered following the examination of 11 unaccompanied trailers that arrived separately into Dublin Port from the UK and Belgium.

“These seizures are part of Revenue's on-going operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of alcohol in the shadow economy.

“If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes or tobacco, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.”
