Over 1,000 popular Audi cars recalled in Ireland over safety fears

More than a thousand popular Audi cars have been recalled over safety fears.

It is a voluntary recall of Audi Q5 passenger vehicles produced between July 2015 and August 2019.

The alert was issued through the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Wednesday.

It reads: "A safety issue has been identified, owing to component tolerances and variations in the manufacturing process, the rear wheelhouse trims may not have been adequately and permanently clipped/attached to the bodywork.

"On the vehicles concerned, the rear wheelhouse trims may loosen over time and in some cases become detached."

A total of 1,342 vehicles in the Republic of Ireland are affected by the recall.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly by Audi Ireland, and will be asked to bring their cars to an authorised repairer, where the issue will be fixed.

A CCPC spokesman added: "Audi Customer Care can be contacted on 1850 81 2760."
